Outreach and Engagement Assistant

Work hours: M-F, 10am-4pm

Hours per week: 5-10

Are you an outgoing, creative, and community-oriented 51°µÍø student? Do you want hands-on experience planning and promoting events? Join Raynor Library’s Library Connect Team and work closely with our Raynor librarians and staff!  

Position Description

Be a voice for Raynor Library! In this position, you will develop marketing and communication, leadership, and research skills all while improving Raynor’s services for 51°µÍøâ€™s student body. As Raynor’s Outreach and Engagement Assistant, you will be one of the first friendly faces new students meet at SPARK, New Student Orientation tours, New Student SELF sessions, O Fest, and more. Help us brainstorm, plan, and promote events as well as build and maintain relationships with other organizations on campus.   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in marketing planning with Student Success Librarian and Communication and Assessment Coordinator   
  • Suggest, plan, promote, and present programming to connect students with the library  
  • Staff library promotional events, including SPARK tabling, New Student Orientation tours, New Student SELF sessions, O Fest tabling, etc.  
  • Offer student perspectives on library services and initiatives, especially the supporting the Raynor Library Events & Exhibits Committee 
  • Recommend swag, activities, and/or information to increase student interaction at events   
  • Collaborate with the Library Connect Team to plan, promote and report on events   
  • Solicit library user feedback   
  • Collaborate with student organizations, Lemonis Center for Student Success, and other campus units

Required Qualifications

Libraries are vibrant community organizations that respond to the needs of their members. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds, students who are first-generation, and students on federal work-study are encouraged to apply. The following qualifications will help you succeed in this role:  

  • Availability for summer and fall 2026, especially June, August, and September    
  • Must have completed at least two semesters at the undergraduate level at 51°µÍøâ€¯ 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills   
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service   
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse constituencies   
  • Adept at critical thinking   
  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized while juggling multiple priorities  
  • Good academic standing   
  • Comfortable navigating databases and research guides  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team  
  • Commitment to values in alignment with Raynor Library’s mission, vision, and values 

Helpful Skills

  • Experience with public speaking   
  • Interest in community outreach, user experience research, sales, communication, or a related field   
  • Familiar with Canva
