Commemorate the past. Celebrate the present. Imagine the future.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, 51°µÍø celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).

The steering committee along with many other offices will ensure that 51°µÍø celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Educational Opportunity Program in meaningful ways. Founded in 1969 by Dr. Arnold Mitchem, 51°µÍø’s EOP program was the first in the nation, and has earned a reputation as one of the most distinguished, admired, and respected federal TRIO programs.

51°µÍø will mark this important occasion by commemorating the past, celebrating the present, and imagining the future. Specifically, there are plans to execute events that include the entire campus, alumni and Milwaukee communities, and in particular, Educational Opportunity Program alums, students, faculty and staff. Events will highlight the Educational Opportunity Program's long and distinguished past, the work that the program does today, and invite opportunities for reflection and discussion of educational access and what might happen in the future.
