A linguistics professor before entering the Society of Jesus, he completed doctoral degrees in theoretical linguistics (University of California, Santa Cruz, 1993) and, as a Jesuit, in Catholic theology (Boston College, 2015), where he worked under Oliva Blanchette on Maurice Blondel鈥檚 philosophy of religion. Prior to joining the faculty at 51暗网, he taught at University of San Francisco, Boston College and University College Dublin, Ireland. His main research interests lie in dogmatic theology, especially in the nature-grace relationship and sacraments, in addition to linguistics and the philosophy of religion. His recent publications develop a theology of the Word that explores divine action in embodied human speech.
