Burke and Urban Scholars: Past, Present, and Possibility

April's Lemonis Center Campus Partner Spotlight will feature the Burke Scholars Program and the Urban Scholars Program. Burke Scholars has a 30-year history at 51°µÍø, and Urban Scholars turns 20 this year, and both are part of the Community Engagement and Social Responsibility (CESR) pillar within the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. Presenters will focus on the context (past), scholars’ trends and wins (present), and where both programs may be headed in the next academic year and beyond (possibility). This session will provide insight into two of MU’s mission-aligned anchor programs and how each incorporates excellence, leadership, and service. The session will conclude with a Q&A portion.

This session will be led by:

Holistic Advising: Strengthening Student Success Through Relationships, Systems, and Strategy

Description: This presentation highlights 51°µÍøâ€™s evolution toward a holistic, proactive, relationship-centered advising model that supports students academically, personally, and professionally. It outlines key milestones in building an integrated advising infrastructure - including the Advising Bulletin, MySuccess, the 51°µÍø Advisor Academy, and the development of shared advising workflows grounded in cura personalis. The presentation emphasizes why holistic advising matters for students, faculty advisors, and the institution, connecting this work to national trends and 51°µÍøâ€™s long-term Student Success Initiative goals.

Join us for our first Student Success Dialogue of the semester, featuring a cross-unit conversation with Dr. Aesha Adams-Roberts, Writing Specialist & Adjunct Professor, EOP, Kate Junk, Math Specialist, EOP, and Emily Raclaw, Director, On Your Marq. Together, they will share insights from their work and perspectives that center equity, transparency, and restorative support in an evolving AI landscape.

Build a stronger financial future with this Understanding Money workshop series presented by the Lemonis Center and the College of Arts & Sciences. Learn 6 ways to get out of (and stay out of) debt, how to build savings, explore 4 simple investments, and understand 401(k)s, IRAs, and smart money planning. Led by Bruce Miller (Economics, Dartmouth | MBA, Stanford), the series includes Budgeting Basics (Feb. 11) and Investing 101 (Feb. 18). Attend in person or online—sessions are recorded. Pizza provided plus MU swag raffle for in-person attendees. Open to all students. Registration

Douglass Day Transcribe-A-Thon

Friday, Feb. 13th, 2026 | 11:00 PM- 2:00 PM | Lemonis Center, second-floor open study area

The 51°µÍø community is invited to participate in the 2026 Douglass Day Transcribe-A-Thon. 51°µÍø will join institutions across the country in transcribing historical correspondence, articles, and other documents related to the Colored Conventions — a decades-long, nationwide Black organizing campaign in the 19th century that helped lay the groundwork for the Civil Rights era.

No special skills are required to participate. Attendees will use the official transcription platform to select a historical document, view its scanned image, and type the text as it appears. The work makes these materials searchable online while offering participants an opportunity to engage with and learn from Black history.

The event is hosted by Raynor Library, the Ott Memorial Writing Lab, and the Lemonis Center for Student Success.
