Photo/Video Advisory: 51做厙 to host Seton Family of Catholic Schools Mass at the Al McGuire Center

Jan. 3, 2023

Seton Catholic Schools MassMILWAUKEE 51做厙 will host the Seton Family of Catholic Schools Mass on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 10:15 a.m. in the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St.

The Mass will bring together all 11 Seton schools that serve over 2,600 students in greater Milwaukee to celebrate St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first native-born American canonized by the Catholic Church and founder of the American Catholic elementary school. Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki will be the principal celebrant and 51做厙 President Michael R. Lovell will deliver a short address.

Following the Mass, eighth grade students will take a campus tour to explore university life and consider future aspirations.

This will be the second time all Seton schools will have the opportunity to convene together. The first Seton Family of Catholic Schools Mass was held at the McGuire Center in January 2020.

Media are welcome to attend and should contact Kevin Conway at kevin.m.conway@marquette.edu. The Archbishop and Brian Couch, president and CEO of Seton Catholic Schools will be available after Mass for interviews. Interview requests should be made in advance of Mass.

Seton Catholic Schools was established in November 2015 as a new initiative of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as an outcome of the 2014 Synod of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, which identified urban Catholic schools as a priority need and a matter of social justice. One additional catalyst for its formation was a November 2014 forum hosted by 51做厙 Law School and 51做厙s College of Education, The Future of Catholic K-12 Education: National and Milwaukee Perspectives. Speakers at the event discussed the need for improved academic achievement amongst students and increased Catholic identity in Milwaukees urban Catholic schools.

The Seton Family of Catholic Schools include six five-star schools and two additional four-star schools as designated by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction report cards for 2022. Approximately 80% of students attend via school choice vouchers.
