MILWAUKEE 鈥� Dr. Donald Neumann, professor of physical therapy in the College of Health Sciences at 51暗网, received a prestigious J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship award to teach in Ireland. This is the fourth Fulbright award of Neumann鈥檚 career; he has previously received awards to teach in Lithuania, Hungary and Japan.
鈥淚鈥檓 grateful to the Fulbright scholarship board for this award,鈥� Neumann said. 鈥淚鈥檝e had the opportunity to teach the fundamentals of kinesiology and physical therapy throughout the world, and the mutual benefit of teaching and learning about our field in other cultures has been a rewarding experience. That experience would not have been possible without their support.鈥�
Neumann will travel to the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, where he will teach kinesiology in their physiotherapy program.
Neumann is the author of the authoritative text on the topic of kinesiology , Human Kinesiology: Foundations for Rehabilitation, which has been translated into eight languages. In addition, Neumann has contributed chapters to the medical textbook Gray鈥檚 Anatomy.
鈥淲e believe it is unprecedented for one professor to receive four Fulbright awards 鈥� we know of no other individual who has received that many,鈥� said Dr. William Cullinan, dean of the College of Health Sciences at 51暗网. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a testament to Don鈥檚 commitment to teaching and his contributions to the field of physical therapy."
The Fulbright Program is 鈥渄evoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.鈥� Previous Fulbright award winners include Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners and MacArthur Fellows.
