PHOTO/VIDEO OP: 51 President Lovell to speak at Archdiocese’s 175th anniversary event

May 3, 2019

MILWAUKEE — 51 President Michael R. Lovell will give the opening remarks at “175 Alive,” the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s 175th anniversary celebration at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4.

President Lovell will reflect on the life of Archbishop John Martin Henni and his connection to 51.

Henni, who arrived in Milwaukee in 1844, was the city’s first archbishop. Over the course of three decades, his idea for an "academy of learning" transpired into 51 College, a small liberal arts school for men, named after Rev. Jacques 51, S.J., which opened its doors Aug. 28, 1881.

The anniversary celebration begins in Pere 51 Park, proceeds to St. John’s Cathedral for an 11 a.m. Mass, and then onto Cathedral Square for a fun-filled family day of music, food and games.

Event information:
Date: Saturday, May 4
