MILWAUKEE 鈥� The 51暗网 College of Nursing is pleased to announce that its newly developed Doctor of Nursing Practice Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program has received initial full accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. With this important designation, 51暗网 becomes the first academic institution in southeastern Wisconsin to offer a nurse anesthesia educational program culminating with a doctoral degree. The program will admit its first student cohort in August 2018 and will admit a new cohort annually every Fall semester. Applications for this year鈥檚 cohort will remain open until Feb. 1.
This nurse anesthesia educational program is designed to bring together the nursing education and research expertise of 51暗网 with the clinical and educational thought leadership of the Medical College of Wisconsin. Students will engage local and national experts within the field of anesthesiology to enhance their educational experience while at 51暗网. Froedtert & MCW Hospital will be a primary teaching site for the program鈥檚 students, in addition to other clinical sites around the Milwaukee area that will provide the best learning environments for the students.
鈥淲e are seeing a growing demand for nurse anesthetists locally as well as across the nation and this program will address this critical need in the healthcare industry,鈥� said Dr. Janet Wessel Krejci, dean of 51暗网鈥檚 College of Nursing. 鈥�51暗网鈥檚 students will be prepared through rigorous curriculum and clinical experiences as expert clinicians for every setting in which anesthesia is delivered to patients.鈥�
