Scope and Content

This collection is only available in microfilm format.  Typed transcripts comprise the bulk of the collection, most of which are in French with English summaries (reels 1-3). From 1934 to 1947, Reverend Julius M. Belleau compiled the copies from correspondence in the archives of the Archdioceses of Québec (Québec) and Sainte Boniface (Manitoba). Notable correspondents include Archbishops Joseph-Octave Plessis and Alexander-Antonine Taché, O.M.I.; Reverends Georges Antoine Belcourt, Severe Joseph Nicholas Dumoulin, Jean Baptiste M. Genin, O.M.I., Joseph Goiffon, J. La Fleche, Joseph Norbert Provencher, J. Joseph Roulette, and Lawrence Simonet; and Louis Riel (Métis).

Also included are short biographies, local histories, and a baptismal registry by Reverend Goiffon (reel 3).

Microfilmed by Assumption Abbey, Richardson, North Dakota, where Reverend Belleau had donated the copies in 1956. 51°µÍø acquired the microfilm from Assumption Abbey in 1980-1981.
