Become the Difference, a Graduate School of Management Alumni Recommendation Scholarship

Through this opportunity to Be The Difference, 51°µÍø alumni, faculty, and staff may recommend individuals in their networks for a 51°µÍø Graduate School of Management (GSM) degree or certificate program.  Recommended students who meet eligibility criteria will be eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship within their first semester of enrollment.

Alumni from any 51°µÍø undergraduate or graduate degree program as well as faculty and staff from all areas of campus may recommend a future student.  To recommend a future student, .  Following your form completion, GSM staff will review the recommendation and reach out directly to the recommended individual to share information about 51°µÍø programs, the scholarship and the application fee waiver.

Scholarship Guidelines:

  • 51°µÍø alumni, faculty and staff may submit multiple recommendations. The criteria to be considered an alumnus/a is completion of two semesters at 51°µÍø.  Full-time and part-time faculty and staff are welcome to recommend future students.
  • The Become the Difference scholarship is available to students who are not 51°µÍø alumni as defined by the.
  • The Become the Difference scholarship is a tuition scholarship.
  • Recommendations will be accepted through July 1, 2025 and may be awarded to students beginning a degree program in summer 2024 through fall 2025.
  • To receive the scholarship, recommended individuals will need to apply, be accepted within degree-seeking status, and begin a GSM degree or certificate program within one year following the recommendation. For example, the scholarship for a recommendation offered in spring 2025 could be used in summer or fall 2025. 
  • To receive the scholarship, a recommendation needs to be received before an admission decision is entered by the GSM.
  • The Become the Difference scholarship will be awarded within a student’s first semester of enrollment and with a minimum enrollment of 3 credits. This is a one-time, nonrenewable scholarship.
  • The Become the Difference scholarship may be combined with other 51°µÍø merit-based aid depending on program resources.  Students who are receiving a full-tuition scholarship through another source are ineligible for the Become the Difference scholarship.
  • The Become the Difference scholarship may not be combined with a Return to 51°µÍø scholarship (described below), may not be awarded to students transferring graduate-level credit into a GSM program, including transfer credit through Accelerated Degree Programs (ADP), and is not available to students eligible for tuition remission (see university policy and procedure 4-09 for detailed information), or organization-level tuition savings agreements between 51°µÍø and the student's employer.

Return to 51°µÍø for Graduate Business Studies

Return to 51°µÍø, a Graduate School of Management Returning Alumni Scholarship

Alumni from any 51°µÍø undergraduate or graduate degree program who begin a GSM degree or certificate program between summer 2023 and fall 2025 may access a $1,000 Return to 51°µÍø scholarship.  Alumni will also automatically receive an application fee waiver (applied within the application system once an application is started).

Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Scholarship offerings will begin in summer 2023.
  • The Return to 51°µÍø scholarship is a tuition scholarship.
  • The criteria to be considered an alumnus/a is the completion of two semesters at 51°µÍø.
  • To receive the scholarship, 51°µÍø alumni need to apply, be accepted within degree-seeking status, and begin a GSM degree or certificate program between summer 2023 and fall 2025.
  • The Return to 51°µÍø scholarship will be awarded within a student’s first semester of enrollment and with a minimum enrollment of 3 credits. The scholarship is nonrenewable.
  • The Return to 51°µÍø scholarship may be combined with other 51°µÍø merit-based aid depending on program resources.  Students who are receiving a full-tuition scholarship through another source are ineligible for the Return to 51°µÍø scholarship.
